Silly Point
Yorker's free weekly cricket newsletter — one moment unpacked each week, with the Cricket DNA behind the players in it.
Silly Point is Yorker's free weekly newsletter. Each edition takes one cricket moment and explains it: the biomechanics, the tactics, the history. One edition a week. You do not need a Yorker account to read it.
Where to read it
Every edition is on the web at yorker.live/silly-point. The newest edition is at the top. Each edition has its own page, and the date is in the address, for example /silly-point/2026-10-14.
An edition page has:
- The key insight — one sentence at the top. The thesis of the piece.
- The article — plain prose, with the names of players marked for their Cricket DNA cards (see below).
- Take it to the nets — a practice idea drawn from the moment, with a link into the matching Yorker tool. The tool needs a Yorker account. Reading the edition does not.
- A share row — send the edition on, or copy the link.
- Previous and next — move through the archive one edition at a time.

Cricket DNA
Silly Point draws on Cricket DNA: the patterns Yorker derives for a player from ball-by-ball data, such as how they score by phase of an innings or how they fare against a type of bowling.
In an edition, a player's name has a dotted underline. Hover over it with a mouse to see the player's DNA card: role, country, and a few of their most distinctive patterns.
The Silly Point front page shows painted portraits of players from the DNA library, and a sample card so you can see what a card looks like before you read an edition.
Some players also have a full Cricket DNA page, with charts for phases, opponents, venues and pressure. The card links to it when the page exists.
