Field Placement

Design, rate, and save tactical field settings with the AI coach.

Setting a field is captaincy in miniature — every fielder is a bet on where the next ball goes. Yorker's field placement tool designs complete, format-legal fields for any match situation and explains the reasoning fielder by fielder.

Designing a field

Open the coach chat and switch to Field mode (or just describe a field problem — the coach recognises field questions automatically). Describe the situation:

  • "Set an attacking field for a right-arm quick to a new RHB, second over of a Test"
  • "T20 death overs, left-hander on strike, we're defending 9 an over — set my field"
  • "The batter keeps sweeping my off-spinner. How should I adjust?"

The coach responds with coaching analysis first — overall strategy, fielder-by-fielder reasoning, strengths and trade-offs — followed by an interactive field diagram with all nine placements.

What you get

  • A complete tactical field — exactly nine fielders (keeper and bowler are drawn automatically), placed with correct off/leg geometry for the batter's handedness
  • Format legality built in — powerplay and death-over fielding restrictions are enforced automatically for T20 and ODI setups; Tests are unrestricted
  • Field rating and expected run rate — how well the setup suits the situation, and the run rate you should expect to concede
  • Professional comparison — which international captains use a comparable setup and when
  • Export — download or copy the field diagram as an image

Tip: Ask "show me all fielding positions" for the full reference chart of every standard position name.

Adjust and re-analyze

Every generated field opens as an interactive canvas — drag fielders to experiment and watch the live balance score react instantly. When you want a second opinion on your adjusted setup, hit Ask coach about this setup and the coach analyzes your exact placements.

Your saved fields

Tactical fields you generate are saved automatically. The Field Placement page (search "Field Planner" in the command palette) shows your saved setups with previews — reopen any field, revisit its analysis, or hit Continue in chat to keep working on it with the coach.
